Many years ago, I went to Tom's apartment in Palm Springs to visit him. I noticed two things: Tom had a poster of Humphrey Bogart (I think from Casablanca) on his wall, and Tom had many cats. As we talked about how and why he'd come to care for so many cats, he informed me that he was also caring for some apartment complex stray cats...A few years later, the real estate boom hit, and some of us encouraged Tom to buy a home near Indio, an investment. We took Tom around to show him this investment opportunity, and the homes his money could buy. We talked with him about how by buying, he could save driving about 50 miles per day...Tom stayed in Palm Springs... What convinced Tom to eventually move was that the apartment complex became a "No Pets" complex. Tom would have to get rid of his cats to remain there, and the manager had declared war on his strays. Tom bought his home in Indio. So, Tom wouldn't move to enrich himself, to make his life a little easier, etc., but he did move to save some cats...Additionally, Tom identified with Humphrey Bogart's subtle charm...Good choice.
